Evaluating the State of Creationism: Creationist Finances

T-shirts available for purchase by home schoolers to support Ham after he was dis-invited to speak at a home school conference.

Evaluating the state of creationism in the evangelical church today is a difficult task.  Gallop polls suggest little changes among Americans regarding their views of origins but the generic nature of the questions make these results challenging to interpret.   I have looked at web site traffic, publication records and other metrics of the reach […]

Reflections on the 2013 PCA General Assembly and the Age of the Earth

old-earth

Dr. Jason Lisle of the Institute of Creation Research (ICR) presented a seminar entitled “Astronomy Reveals Creation” at this year’s PCA (Presbyterian Church in America) General Assembly which took place  two weeks ago.  Some billed this as the young-earth follow-up to a seminar given at last year’s PCA GA by Dr. Greg Davidson who presented […]

The State of Creationism as Viewed by Google Trends

Just how much interest is there in various forms of creationism and has that interest been increasing or decreasing? There have been many polls that that have addressed this question over the past several decades. These polls generally suggest that attitudes toward the age of the earth, the origin of man and evolution have not […]

The State of Creation Science as Measured by Scholarly Publishing

Journal-of-Creation-Magazines

In two prior posts (Creation Science Organizations: Past, Present and Future and The Next Generation of Creation Scientists) I have raised questions about the viability of the creation science movement as measured by the conversion of new scientists to the movement.   Of course there have been many converts to belief in a young earth or at […]

The Next Generation of Creation Scientists?

Scientific-Creationism-Morris-Henry

I have to believe that when Henry Morris formed ICR he envisioned hundreds of scientists today actively applying the creation model to the historical sciences not just mouthing support for it. That former obviously hasn’t happened despite the proliferation of creation science organizations with their significant financial resources and publishing capacity Creationists list hundreds of PhD scientists who are creation scientists but this is not the same as saying there are hundreds of creation scientists doing creation science.

Creation Science Organizations: Past, Present and Future

ken ham poses with dinosaur at creation museum

Over the years I have maintained an eye on the ever-changing organizational structure of several creation science ministries.  The growth and in some cases retraction of some organizations is not unlike what happens to many non-profit or other para-church organizations.  The growth of para-church organizations is frequently caused by one of two main drivers:  a dynamic personality […]

The Toba Super Eruption: A Non-Flood Catastrophe – The Artifacts Say Yes!

The Toba volcano is found near the center of Sumatra, Indonesia. It has been estimated that at least 2800 cubic kilometers of material was thrown into the air during the explosion or series of explosions. To put that in perspective the Krakatoa volcano threw just over 2 cubic kilometers of material into the air some of which circled the globe causing dazzling sunsets in Europe.

Origins Science and Misconceptions of Historical Science

mars-opportunity-rover-jpl-nasa

Many people have a perception of scientists as white-coated individuals hunched over at a lab bench performing experiments.  They are doing experimental science which include the testing of hypotheses and determining which ones are supported and which should be discarded.  Others scientists are imagined as collecting observational data using  telescopes to describe distant planets and […]

Web Traffic Data for Reformed and Creationist Sites

web-traffic

I am updating some web traffic data and adding a few new sites.   I was wondering how the traffic of some of the prominent creation evangelism sites such as Answers in Genesis (AIG) and the Institute from Creation Research (ICR) compared to that of other general Christian web sites and reformed Christian organizations.  I got […]

Having Faith in Flood Geology – Dogmatic Assertions of Evidence

Yes, everyone is an expert in something but they aren't an expert in everything. It is how we make decisions about what other experts to believe that will have a huge impact on our beliefs.

A comment on another site captures the essence of where I think Christians who have been told the Bible teaches the earth must be young are putting their confidence. Their confidence is placed in the belief that experts in scientific fields have provided them with not only enough evidence but overwhelming evidence that earth is young. This person is putting his faith in experts which, he admits, have bolstered his faith in the Word of God.
