A quick note about another report of a fossilized forest that has been described. Last week it was PNAS that had the big story of a the "Permian Pompeii," a fossil forest reconstructed in China which I discussed in "An Ancient and Alien Forest Reconstructed." Not more than a week later the magazine "Nature" is highlighting the description of a another reconstructed forest.
Meteorite Impact Craters and Apparent Age – An Addendum
As a way of simplifying yesterday's rambling entry I offer the following comparison of two meteorite impact craters. The first, Victoria Crater, is from Mars and the second, Amguid Crater, is in Algeria, Africa. Let's compare the features and then ask if they can help us to evaluate the current young earth geology models and... Continue Reading →
Kamil Meteor Crater: A “Young” Impact on Earth Compared to Craters on Mars
Kamil Meteorite crater is a recently discovered crater in Egypt which is an example of a very young crater on earth. What can Kamil Crater tell us about the origin of craters not only on Earth but also on other Planets? And what does this tell us about the age of the Earth and those other planets?
Fossil Eggs, Nests, Floods and Stressed Pregnant Dinosaurs
This is a follow-up to my previous post on the 15 juvenile dinosaur fossils found in a nest. In that post I mentioned one of the explanations by flood geologists (ie. young earth creationists) for the presence of fossilized dinosaur eggs in the fossil record is that dinosaurs somehow escaped the initial stages of... Juvenile Dinosaur Fossils in a Nest: Testimony to Rapid Burial but Not by a Flood
Another remarkable fossils find has been reported in the past few days. This involves 15 complete or nearly complete fossils of juvenile dinosaurs all preserved in what is apparently a large 2-3 foot wide nest. I have obtained the original journal article that described this fossil find in detail. The paper "A nest... Continue Reading →
Atacama Whale Fossils – Huge Find of Modern Whale Fossils in Chile
A story of a spectacular whale fossil find in the Atacama desert of Chile has recently been reported. The best pictures of the site can be found HERE along with the story. In the picture here you can clearly seen the outline of a baleen whale (like a bowhead or blue whale). There are likely... Continue Reading →
Walter Brown and the Origin of Asteroids and Impact Craters on other Planets
Sometimes you run across an article so ridiculous you can hardly believe you just read it. Such is the case with a chapter of Walter Brown's book "In the Beginning." The whole book has significant problems but while I was delving a bit deeper into the origins of meteorites and asteroids and the appearance of... Continue Reading →
Ray to Lhwyd in 1695 continued: Fossils and the Flood
The same letter of Ray's to Lhwyd in 1695 that I posted recently goes on to explain Ray's feelings about the new flood theories that were being promoted in the late 1600s and some observations on fossils. The letter reveals Ray's reading of the prevailing interpretation of the flood narratives of Genesis in his day. ... Continue Reading →
John Ray on Woodward in 1695: Words that still apply today
The following quote is by John Ray from a correspondence with Mr. Edward Lhwyd on April 8 1695. The quote is from a publication of Ray's letters called the Further Correspondence of John Ray Edited by Robert W. T. Gunther and printed for the Ray Society in 1928. I need to set the scene for... The Strange Rubbing Boulders of the Atacama
The worlds largest rock tumbler? This story caught my eye this morning. GSA press release - The Strange Rubbing Boulders of the Atacama. It seems that every other day I read about some place on earth that has a strange story to tell and usually that story is difficult to understand without an earth that... Continue Reading →
Covered in Shells: How many fossils are there?
SUMMARY: Below I calculate the number of fossils in the Midwest region from some of my own observations and knowledge of the area. I conclude that at a minimum there are enough fossils in just this one set of rock strata in the Midwest US to cover the entire earth with 20 small shells (little... Continue Reading →
Volcanic Ash (Tephra): Evidence of the Passage of Time
The following example is derived from several articles involving sediment cores from explosion craters (maars) and their subsequent analysis (See refs at end). I will assume little geological background in writing this example. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Summary: Pollen profiles from a 46 meter core from the center of a small explosion crater in South Central France suggest... Tas Walker’s Biblical Geology Model
In reading about the transformation of Creation Science Foundation into Creation Ministries International (there site can be found at: http://www.creationontheweb.com/ ) I happened onto one of their affiliated sites which is Tas Walker’s Biblical Geology web page (www.biblicalgeology.net). I had forgotten about his particular model of all of earth’s geological history which he presented in... Continue Reading →
Who are the people of AIG and CMI
Back when there was a significant dispute between Answers in Genesis (AIG) and Creation Ministries International (CMI) I wondered where the creation science movement may be headed. At the time I thought it would be interesting to look at who the people are behind these organizations right now and see if the backgrounds of those... Continue Reading →
