One way of looking at the origins debate is by looking at the publishing scene. I have observed elsewhere that the last 20 years have seen more books published on the topic than the prior 100 years combined. The creation science movement has pumped out an astounding number of books and seminary professors... Continue Reading →
State of the Origins Debate – Part II: The Response to Walton’s “Lost World”
Returning to John Walton and his recent contributions to the Genesis debate: Previously I mentioned that I had picked up Walton’s book “The Lost World of Genesis One” again. I also have read his more recent book which is a more academic follow-up to that book entitled “Genesis 1 as Ancient Cosmology.” There have... Continue Reading →
An Ancient and Alien Forest Reconstructed: A challenge for young earth creationism
Recent studies of multiple intact fossilized forests provide a very detailed account of the presence of an seemingly alien forest that was found multiple locations across the entire globe at some point in the past. A forest completely devoid of the presence of any flowering plants such as oaks, maples and beech trees or even... Continue Reading →
On the Fringes of the YEC Movement: The Creation Ministry of Philip Stott
All movements have extremist and young earth creationism also has its own extremists that work on the fringes of the movement. In 1997 I had an experience that strongly effected my view of the age of the earth debate within evangelical Christianity and the reformed church in particular.
The Current State of Creationism in the Reformed Church – Part I
After a mental break on the issues revolving around reading Genesis 1-11 for about year the topic moved back to the front of my mind again about six months ago as I prepared to get back to a couple of larger writing projects that will focus on the age of the earth. As a way... Continue Reading →
Forests During the Age of the Dinosaurs – A Cretaceous Reconstruction
Continuing on with the theme of the last several posts which examined reconstructions of fossil forests here are the results of another research paper released this past week (reference below). In this study the authors examined records of more than 2200 fossilized wood collections just from Cretaceous aged rocks at locations all around the world. ... Continue Reading →
The Lost World Of New York: Another Ancient Forest Reconstruction
A quick note about another report of a fossilized forest that has been described. Last week it was PNAS that had the big story of a the "Permian Pompeii," a fossil forest reconstructed in China which I discussed in "An Ancient and Alien Forest Reconstructed." Not more than a week later the magazine "Nature" is highlighting the description of a another reconstructed forest.
Preservation of Behavior: Fossilized Elephant Tracks from the Arabian Peninsula
An areas with thousands of fossilized tracks from the United Arab Emirates has been described in the journal Biology Letters. Additional background information about the find can be found HERE. The tracks have been described as having been formed by an extinct species of elephants and are possibly the largest continuous set of trackways discovered... Continue Reading →
Meteorite Impact Craters and Apparent Age – An Addendum
As a way of simplifying yesterday's rambling entry I offer the following comparison of two meteorite impact craters. The first, Victoria Crater, is from Mars and the second, Amguid Crater, is in Algeria, Africa. Let's compare the features and then ask if they can help us to evaluate the current young earth geology models and... Continue Reading →
Kamil Meteor Crater: A “Young” Impact on Earth Compared to Craters on Mars
Kamil Meteorite crater is a recently discovered crater in Egypt which is an example of a very young crater on earth. What can Kamil Crater tell us about the origin of craters not only on Earth but also on other Planets? And what does this tell us about the age of the Earth and those other planets?
Fossil Eggs, Nests, Floods and Stressed Pregnant Dinosaurs
This is a follow-up to my previous post on the 15 juvenile dinosaur fossils found in a nest. In that post I mentioned one of the explanations by flood geologists (ie. young earth creationists) for the presence of fossilized dinosaur eggs in the fossil record is that dinosaurs somehow escaped the initial stages of... Juvenile Dinosaur Fossils in a Nest: Testimony to Rapid Burial but Not by a Flood
Another remarkable fossils find has been reported in the past few days. This involves 15 complete or nearly complete fossils of juvenile dinosaurs all preserved in what is apparently a large 2-3 foot wide nest. I have obtained the original journal article that described this fossil find in detail. The paper "A nest... Continue Reading →
Atacama Whale Fossils – Huge Find of Modern Whale Fossils in Chile
A story of a spectacular whale fossil find in the Atacama desert of Chile has recently been reported. The best pictures of the site can be found HERE along with the story. In the picture here you can clearly seen the outline of a baleen whale (like a bowhead or blue whale). There are likely... Continue Reading →
Creation on the Internet: Where Do We Go to Learn About Origins?
Who is interested in the question of origins and where do they go to find information? There are a number of ways to gauge interest but a quick look at web site traffic can be illustrative of what information is getting to the most people. Below I list what I think are the prominent organizational... Continue Reading →
Walter Brown and the Origin of Asteroids and Impact Craters on other Planets
Sometimes you run across an article so ridiculous you can hardly believe you just read it. Such is the case with a chapter of Walter Brown's book "In the Beginning." The whole book has significant problems but while I was delving a bit deeper into the origins of meteorites and asteroids and the appearance of... Continue Reading →
