A remarkable trace fossil has given us a glimpse into the environmental conditions of a Jurassic seafloor.   Ammonite fossils are common in Jurassic rocks but one particular ammonite is more unusual than most.  In the horizontal layer of rock where it was found a 28 foot-long line of shallow grooves was found leading right up to the... Young-earth Creationist’ Responses to the Homo naledi Fossils from South Africa
News is starting to leak out about what appears to be the imminent announcement of new discoveries and analyses of the perplexing bones found deep in a cave in South Africa. In addition to providing a much younger date for the fossils than expected and the revelation that there is a second chamber with additional specimens,... Continue Reading →
Thousands of Fossilized Elephant Footprints Preserved in the Arabian Desert
Thousands of footprints preserved in a windswept eroded rock surface deep in an isolated desert region of the Arabian peninsula tell the story of an ancient herd of elephants walking across an ancient muddy landscape.  These are possibly the longest continuous set of footprints in the world and have been described in an article in the journal,... Millions of Fossilized Footprints – A Global Flood Dinosaur Dilemma
Animal tracks preserved in stone are found in great abundance in many parts of the geological column.  You might be asking yourself, aren't the chances incredibly small that any individual track made in mud would be preserved over long periods of time? You would be right.  The vast majority of footprints won’t survive the ravages of... Continue Reading →
A Fossil Paradox? Footprints are Rarely Preserved in Stone and yet are very Common
Billions of footprints are preserved in the rock record. While bones get all the attention, fossil footprints likely outnumber bones. How can we make sense of this observation?  Surely, preserving a bone must be far more likely than preserving a footprint? I have written about how paleontologists use information from footprints and bones to reconstruct... Continue Reading →
Answers from Genesis: Reclaiming the Biblical Authority of Joseph’s Global Famine
The year was 1700 BC. Severe climate change had been engulfing the entire Earth for several years. People from every corner of the globe were traveling to Egypt to buy grain which Joseph has stored up as a result of a vision that God had given to Pharaoh nearly a decade before. During this time... Dinosaur Footprints, Eggs and Bones – Are Paleontologists Creating Fake History?
Dinosaur tracks and eggshells are abundant findings within the geological column, capturing the attention of numerous dedicated paleontologists. Their relentless pursuit involves uncovering, studying, and interpreting these remnants of long-extinct creatures. However, is all this painstaking effort merely an illusion when considering the young-earth perspective? Could the majority of paleontological work be seen as fabricating... Continue Reading →
Is Natural and Biological Diversity A Testament of God’s Creative Power or a Consequence of Sin? Reflections on “Is Genesis History?”
In my reflections on the recent film "Is Genesis History?" which appeared on the Biologos website yesterday I made the following observation: "Recently I found myself in a theater taking in scenes of God’s creation through the documentary Is Genesis History? hosted by Del Tackett. This beautifully produced film transported myself and the rest of a clearly... More Planets Than Stars! Exoplanets and Our Little Blue Ball
Our solar system comes with planets of all sorts of sizes and compositions.  Not long ago, it was possible to debate if there were any other planets in the Universe other than those of our solar system.  Now, there doesn’t seem to be any question that other planets, called exoplanets, do exist. The... Continue Reading →
A Strange Testament to an Ancient Earth: Bat Breath Causes Caves to Grow Larger
Can the act of breathing in a cave cause it to grow larger? Limestone caves are usually formed by dissolution of limestone as the result of the interaction of carbon dioxide dissolved in water seeping through cracks in bedrock.  Typically this begins deep underground and as voids expand and reach the surface animals may enter... The Naica Cave of Crystals is a Giant Problem for a Young Earth
Nine hundred feet below a Mexican desert hundreds of giant white crystals, some more than 90 feet long and 13 feet wide, fill a hot (137 F) and humid cavern.  Pictures of people exploring this crystal palace look as if Rick Moranis had shrunk them down to the size of an ant and then put them into... Ken Ham’s Biblical Evolution? I Have a Book That Says Otherwise
Three years ago Ken Ham very publicly promoted what he believes is a biblical model of biological evolution to explain the diversity of life on Earth.  However, I have a book before me that provides compelling evidence that his model of evolution is wrong. That book is the Bible. For those that follow young earth creation literature nothing... Continue Reading →
Who Is Our Authority? The Reformed Church Looks Outside Itself for Answers in Genesis
Answers and Genesis finds itself at the epicenter of an evangelical surge, but despite calls by Ken Ham for a modern reformation - including a return to taking the authority of the Bible seriously - it is possible that the calls for reformation are not to a serious exegesis of God’s Word but rather to a trite and superficial saccharine form of evangelicalism. It is a movement that claims to be true to God’s word while suffering the very problems that Luther and the other reformers were so worried about. Acknowledging biblical authority without understanding that authority will not result in true reformation. To make followers of Christ, the foundation must not be only a respect for Biblical authority but a right understanding of His Word.
On the Origin of Thorns: The Prelapsarian Acacia and the Good Creation
Thorns, prickles, spines and needles provide an effective means of protection for plants against many herbivores which would otherwise find them to be a source of nourishment.  A common perception of the Genesis account of creation is that God created plants with no form of natural protection against herbivores because God pronounced that  (Gen.... Adam, Eden, and the Corruption of Nature: A Thorny Young-Earth Assumption
Are the existence of plant thorns and thistles proof that the world can only be a few thousand years old?  Yes! according to most young-earth creationists. I've written several times about thorns and creation (eg. The Prelapsarian Acacia and the Good Creation: On the Origin of Thorns) but a video available at creationtoday.org - a small fringe young-earth...
